Confine Small Workplace Emergencies – Fire Extinguisher Training (PUAWER008B)

First Aid Training Group’s Fire Extinguisher training course enables the successful participant to demonstrate how various portable fire protection products are used in emergency situations. The course covers demonstrating the use of a portable fire extinguisher, a fire hose reel and a fire blanket. All work in this area must be completed in accordance with relevant legislative, industry, customer and organisational requirements, including Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) policies and procedures.

First Aid Training Group’s comprehensive fire equipment practical training course will provide participants with the knowledge, skill and confidence to use the fire safety equipment within their workplace during an emergency. The course covers demonstrating the use of portable fire extinguishers, hose reels plus the effective and safe use of a fire blanket and includes;

Determine the classification and fire type
Select the appropriate fire extinguisher to attack the fire. Demonstrate usage of fire extinguishers safely according to the manufacturers’ instructions, and in accordance with relevant OH&S and workplace policies and procedures.

Demonstrate correct usage of a fire hose reel
Demonstrate usage of the hose reel safely according to manufacturers’ instructions and in accordance with relevant WHS and workplace policies and procedures. Turn off water in the approved sequence and check the hose reel for leaks. Rewind the hose reel correctly after use.

Demonstrate correct usage of a fire blanket

Demonstrate usage of the fire blanket safely according to manufacturers’ instructions and in accordance with the relevant WHS and workplace policies and procedures.

Course Details

The face to face training is 2 hours and covers both the theory and practical aspects of Confine Small Workplace Emergencies.

First Aid Training Group can help manage and deliver a practical emergency evacuation training session and provide an assessment of your company’s emergency planning and evacuation preparedness skills.  First Aid Training Group will manage, prepare, evaluate and report on the efficiencies of emergency evacuation from your building premises including all required Occupational Health & Safety requirements and compliance to Standards as well as employer responsibilities.

Evacuation drills are an important and compulsory procedural requirement for all staff to understand and undertake.  Training, management, execution and evaluation are all vital to successful and timely emergency evacuation procedures.

Course Details

Emergency Evacuation planning, management and evaluation is unique to individual company requirements and facility specific features. As such, each plan will be unique dependent on many factors including, but not limited to company size, industry and location etc.

First Aid Training Group’s emergency planning can also incorporate emergency diagrams preparation with all essential compliance requirements in accordance with Australian Standard 3745-2010 (Planning for Emergencies in Facilities).

First Aid Training Group can provide thoroughly planned and customised plans by our experienced consultants.  Plans are then comprehensively developed and drawn in-house by our CAD draftspersons.

Additionally, First Aid Training Group can also deliver Fire Warden training, use of firefighting equipment training and assist with annual emergency planning and evacuation drills enabling a comprehensive, compliant and congruent plan from inception to execution.

Certificate Validity

Under Australian Standards, Emergency Evacuation drills are to be undertaken annually as a minimum.

This team works in conjunction with the emergency control organisation in the control of workplace emergencies in their early stages prior to the arrival of emergency services or a specialist response team.

  • Ability to select and use protective clothing and equipment safely and effectively under emergency conditions
  • Ability to effectively communicate during emergencies

  • Understanding of equipment operating characteristics, limitations, hazards, precautions, procedures and general care
  • Understanding of survival, rescue and recovery procedures
  • Demonstrate tactics for safely handling specific emergencies
  • Understanding of the Hierarchy of Controls
Course Details & Prerequisites

The face-to-face training is 2 days and covers both the theory and practical aspects of operating as part of a Workplace Emergency Response Team (ERT).

All participants are required to be medically fit & clean shaven and must wear safety boots, high visibility long sleeved clothing and trousers (no shorts or skirts).
(Note: Participants are required to be clean shaven to enable a positive seal whilst wearing SCBA equipment as per AS/NZS 1715).

Correct fit of a mask requires contact with smooth skin – this makes masks unsuitable for persons with beards or moustaches. Even a one day growth of a beard has been shown to allow nearly one per cent penetration of a full face-piece.
